10 Reasons Why Apartments are Better than Dorms

Student Doing Schoolwork in His Costa Mesa ApartmentAre you looking for housing as a student in Costa Mesa? If this is the case, you may be debating whether to rent an apartment or live in a dorm. While both options have advantages and disadvantages, we believe that for the majority of students, apartments are a superior option. Not only would an apartment have greater conveniences, but renting an apartment has many additional advantages over living in a dorm. To help you consider renting an apartment, here are ten reasons.

Apartments are usually more spacious than dorms, so you’ll have more room to study and relax.

There is little space for you to perform simple everyday duties in dorm rooms because they are so crowded. While not all apartments are enormous, the majority are larger than a dorm room and may provide you with a comfortable bedroom and living room area.

Apartments typically offer more privacy than dorms.

You will spend the entire semester in close quarters with your roommate (or roommates, depending on the setup), as the average dorm room is a shared room. An apartment, even a shared one, typically provides more solitude and flexibility throughout the day. In contrast to many dorms, an apartment lets you pick your roommate or roommates.

You can cook your own meals in an apartment, which is often healthier and cheaper than eating at the campus dining hall.

While student meal plans may be practical, they aren’t necessarily the healthiest choice. This is especially true if you have certain dietary requirements. You can better meet your demands by renting an apartment with a kitchen by cooking your own meals. Additionally, cooking at home is frequently less expensive than eating out.

Some apartments allow students to have pets, whereas dorms usually do not.

In a dorm room, it’s usually not possible to bring your favorite pet with you. However, some Costa Mesa property managers allow pets in apartments, allowing you to live near to your four-legged buddy. Do some research first and be aware that there can be limits (such as dog breeds and sizes) as well as additional pet fees and rent.

You won’t have to share a bathroom with dozens of other people in an apartment.

One of the main issues that college students have with dorm life is certainly this. You can have your private bathroom or even many bathrooms in your apartment. In either case, you won’t have to share with nearly as many individuals, resulting in less waiting time and fewer messes to clean up.

Apartments are typically quieter than dorms, so you’ll be able to get a better night’s sleep.

A dorm room is probably not the best spot for you if you value quiet time. It can be difficult to get a good night’s sleep with people coming and going at all hours of the night and continual noise from your neighbors. However, apartments frequently provide greater peace and quiet, allowing you to get the rest you require.

If you have a car, you can usually park it for free in an apartment complex.

If you cannot find a parking spot on campus, you may have to park far away and walk to your dorm. In an apartment, however, you typically have your own assigned parking place (or numerous spots, depending on the complex) that you can use for free. If you require a car to get around the campus, this is a major benefit.

Apartment communities usually have great amenities like pools, gyms, and laundry facilities.

Although some dorms may offer some of these amenities, they are typically not as attractive or well-kept as those in an apartment complex. Of course, using them will cost you money. Nevertheless, in an apartment building, these extras are typically included in your rent, allowing you to take advantage of them without paying more.

Most apartments are located close to campus, so you won’t have to waste time commuting.

This is crucial if you have early classes or must go to campus for events and activities. Dorms are particularly practical because they are frequently found on or close to campuses. However, most college towns feature close-by apartments that are perhaps a short walk away. If you’d prefer to move out of the dorm and into better housing, those extra few minutes can be worth it!

Renting an apartment is often cheaper than paying for a dorm room.

This is especially valid if you share an apartment with roommates. Even shared rooms without an attached toilet come with hefty prices at several institutions. Knowing this, landlords close to campuses frequently set their rental rates competitively to draw in students. Apartments may also include utilities and internet access in the rent, which may be of a higher caliber than what you’ll find on campus. This results in a far better overall value when renting an apartment.

An apartment is definitely your best option if you’re looking for a place to live as a student. You’re likely to find something that will meet your desired lifestyle, whether your ideal off-campus living is in a big complex or a shared house, with a little work.
